The "Descubre" (Discover) series by the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir presents symphonic and choral masterworks in an accessible, no-intermission Sunday morning format at the Auditorio Nacional’s Sala Sinfónica. The 2026–27 edition features three emerging conductors: Irene Delgado-Jiménez, Miguel Sepúlveda, and Jorge Yagüe. This program, Descubre 01, pairs Lili Boulanger’s Psalm 130 with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, setting a dialogue between early 20th-century French choral-orchestral writing and early Viennese classicism. Boulanger, the first woman to win the Prix de Rome, created a large-scale “De profundis” for orchestra, mixed chorus, and narrator, notable for its dramatic intensity and bold harmonies. Beethoven’s Second Symphony, composed amid personal crisis, remains strikingly energetic and optimistic, rooted in Haydn and Mozart yet unmistakably his own. The concert is conducted by Irene Delgado-Jiménez, with narration in the Boulanger by Sofía Martínez Villar.
