A concert in OCNE’s 2026/2027 Satélites series, under the season’s artistic direction of Kent Nagano, devoted entirely to the Chigi Codex—one of the most important sources of late‑15th‑century Franco‑Flemish sacred polyphony. Preserved in the Vatican Library (MS Chigi C.VIII.234) and produced in Flanders c.1498–1503, likely for Philip I of Castile, the manuscript is notable for vivid Ghent illuminations and clear musical notation. The programme is grounded in the new critical edition published by the University of Chicago Press, edited by musicologist Edward F. Houghton, which provides comprehensive, scholarly access to the manuscript’s contents. The National Choir of Spain, led by Miguel Ángel García Cañamero, performs the selected polyphonic works, continuing the ensemble’s commitment to early sacred repertoire. Edward Houghton serves as artistic and scholarly director, shaping selection and interpretation from his edition. It is the only Saturday event in the Satélites series.
