About this event

Part of the CBSO’s 2026/27 season, this concert celebrates Beethoven’s dramatic and Romantic orchestral voice around his Violin Concerto. Three theatre-inspired overtures—Leonore No. 2, Coriolan, and Egmont—frame the concerto, revealing how Beethoven translated narrative tension, conflict, and liberation into purely orchestral terms. CBSO Leader Eugene Tzikindelean directs the overtures from the podium and then leads from the violin as soloist in the concerto, echoing a historically informed play-direct approach that predates the modern separation of conductor and soloist.
