This concert is part of the CBSO's 2026–27 season under Music Director Kazuki Yamada, a year the orchestra describes as one of artistic ambition, civic pride, and musical breadth. The 2 December 2026 programme traces a journey of nostalgia, homeland, and resilience through darkness, beginning with Weinberg's folk-infused Rhapsody, moving to Elgar's elegiac Cello Concerto, and culminating in Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony. Alisa Weilerstein performs the Elgar concerto under the baton of Joshua Weilerstein; their sibling partnership brings a natural musical rapport. A pre-concert talk with both artists will precede the performance. Programming Weinberg’s Rhapsody alongside two twentieth-century mainstays highlights CBSO’s ongoing exploration of Weinberg’s music—an area further developed this season with a semi-staged presentation of his opera The Passenger.
