In keeping with tradition, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen opens the season with a concert featuring young prizewinners of the Sondershausen Carl Schroeder Competition as soloists with the orchestra. The specific instruments and solo works are not announced in advance. The orchestral centerpiece presents romantic excerpts from Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera Hansel and Gretel. The evening concludes with a communal sing-along of Christmas carols, rounding off the Advent atmosphere. The historic eight-sided Achteckhaus hall at Schloss Sondershausen provides an intimate, resonant setting.
