Herbert Blomstedt returns at the age of 99 to conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra in Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5 at the Royal Festival Hall. The single-work programme is performed without an interval and forms part of the Philharmonia’s Classical Season – Autumn/Winter 2026/27. Free printed programmes will be available, with digital notes published about a week in advance. Blomstedt, the American-born Swedish conductor whose career spans over eight decades, has led major Scandinavian and American orchestras and is renowned for his Bruckner interpretations, having recorded the Fifth Symphony around a dozen times. Recent collaborations with the Philharmonia have drawn exceptional praise. The Royal Festival Hall is within London’s Southbank Centre, which offers step-free access and cash-free facilities.
