About this event

Babel is a world-premiere in-house production by Theater & Orchester Heidelberg for the 2026/27 season: a multilingual, music-infused piece by playwright Ivana Sokola, staged by Jana Vetten. Conceived as a “musical confusion of tongues,” the production blends text, sound, and the physicality of the acting ensemble into a polyphonic theatrical event. Designed for an international audience, it explores what might happen if we all spoke the same language, treating multilingualism as both everyday reality and creative resource, while probing the difference between speaking and truly understanding. Vetten—recipient of the German theatre prize DER FAUST 2025 for Heidelberg’s Nora—leads the creative team with stage and costume design by Lan Anh Pham, lighting by Karsten Rischer, and dramaturgy by Maria Schneider; theatre education is led by Mareike Schneider. Performances take place in the Marguerre-Saal at Theater Heidelberg without surtitles and with a recommended age of 16+.
