This concert forms part of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's 2026–27 season at Cadogan Hall, marking the orchestra's 80th anniversary year. The programme traces an emotional and stylistic arc: opening with Debussy’s impressionistic soundworld, centring on a world premiere, and culminating in Brahms’s First Symphony. The event sits within the RPO’s Symphony & Core Classical series and is designated Schools & Groups Friendly. The world premiere of Laurence Osborn’s Sun Sundered Head: Nocturne for Cello and Orchestra is the programme’s centrepiece. Osborn, a British composer and recent winner of the 2024 RPS Award and 2024 Ivor Novello Award for chamber composition, has worked with leading UK orchestras and is a Fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge. Conductor Ariane Matiakh makes her RPO debut, and cellist Zlatomir Fung—an RPO Artist-in-Residence alumnus—returns as soloist for the Osborn premiere.
