About this event

As part of Opéra de Lausanne’s Cultural Outreach — Beyond the Walls, this Carte blanche invites the Cinémathèque suisse to dialogue with Giuditta. Stage director Pierre-André Weitz introduces Jacques Feyder’s 1934 film Le Grand Jeu at the Capitole, whose Foreign Legion setting, exotic mirages and doomed romance resonate with Franz Lehár’s operetta. After the screening, the audience walks to the Opéra de Lausanne to observe part of a working rehearsal of Giuditta, staged by Weitz in a 1930s circus-and-cabaret universe. A co-production with Opéra national du Rhin, with lighting by Bertrand Killy and choreography by Ivo Bauchiero. Light refreshments are offered before entering the auditorium. Total duration: approx. 2 hours, no intermission.
