This concert production presents the Dutch premiere of Louise Bertin’s rediscovered romantic opera Fausto. Performed by the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and the Groot Omroepkoor, the event revives a work by a 25-year-old French composer connected to figures like Victor Hugo and Hector Berlioz. Premiered in 1831 at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris and withdrawn after three performances, the score remained unseen for nearly two centuries. In Amsterdam, Bertin’s original vocal design is restored: the title role, written for a mezzo-soprano, is sung by Italian bel canto specialist Raffaella Lupinacci. Under conductor Giulio Cilona, the performance traces Bertin’s idiom from Rossinian elegance in the opening to a fuller Romantic sweep as the drama unfolds.
