The Saturday Morning series combines full performances of chamber music works with unique insights, humor, history, and backstory provided by Dr. Robert Greenberg. This season marks Dr. Greenberg’s 25th anniversary as the esteemed Music Historian-in-Residence for San Francisco Performances. The series features the acclaimed Esmé Quartet as the Ensemble-in-Residence. Formed in 2016 at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany, by four Korean musicians who had been friends since their youth, the quartet takes its name from the old French word for “beloved.” They are praised for their warm sound and powerful stage presence, rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation as a chamber ensemble of exceptional artistry.
