About this event

Spark is a newly commissioned fantastical youth opera making its world premiere on the Glyndebourne mainstage during the 2026 Autumn Season. Directed by Fiona Dunn, it is the first full-scale opera to emerge from Glyndebourne’s Balancing The Score scheme. The production brings together professional soloists and the Glyndebourne Sinfonia with the young voices of Glyndebourne Youth Opera. It carries advisory notes for themes including grief, loneliness, isolation and school avoidance, while maintaining an ultimately optimistic tone. It is recommended for audiences aged 8+ (Year 4 and above). Spark is supported by The Chalk Cliff Trust, with Glyndebourne’s Learning & Engagement programme receiving public funding from Arts Council England.
