The Journey to the Christmas Star is among the most frequently performed plays in Norwegian theatre history, reportedly second only to Peer Gynt. In 2026, Kilden Teater presents a new, full-scale Christmas staging in the Theatre and Opera Hall, utilizing the venue’s 653 seats and orchestra pit. Directed by Lars Jacobsen—who has staged the work elsewhere in Norway—the creative team includes set designer Even Børsum, costume designer Ingrid Nylander, choreographer Silje Nordheim, lighting designer Kine Kvendseth, sound designer Kristian Bronebakk, and dramaturg Endre Sannes Hadland. Musical arrangements are by Per Christian Revholt, adapting Johan Halvorsen’s original score for this production. Recommended for ages 5 and up, the show features Kilden’s actors together with several dozen children and young performers. Kilden Teater produces the run, presented by arrangement with Songbird Agency / Teaterforlaget Songbird AS. A total of 27 performances are scheduled from 20 November to 22 December 2026.
