About this event

Obotaqua is a music and dance theatre production created for children aged 1–3 and their families. It brings together three seemingly distant sound worlds: the oboe (a Western double‑reed instrument), the qanun/kanun (a zither central to Arab music for centuries), and contemporary dance. The title blends these elements: Oboe, Tanz (dance), and Qanun. The performance features the Syriab Duo — Friedrike Kayser on oboe and English horn and Ibrahim Bajo on qanun — together with dancer Jin Lee. Concept, stage direction, and choreography are by Ceren Oran; props and costumes are by Sigrid Wurzinger; music dramaturgy and concept contributions are by Franziska Stolz. A co‑production of Philharmonie Luxembourg and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, promoted by HamburgMusik, the piece appears in the Elbphilharmonie’s Funkelkonzerte S series (for ages 1–3). In the intimate setting of Kaistudio 1, the instruments and movement create a cross‑cultural, sensory dialogue tailored to very young audiences.
