Opening the Elbphilharmonie’s “Lebanon” festival, Beirut-based band Sanam brings its album “Sametou Sawtan – I Heard a Voice” to the Recital Hall, turning the space into a vibrant indie club atmosphere reminiscent of contemporary Beirut. The group’s sound fuses experimental psych and krautrock with Egyptian musical traditions and Arabic poetry, blending guitars, bass, drums, synthesizer and live electronics with Arabic melodic contours. Their set moves from airy restraint to explosive energy, channeling the mysticism and creative pulse of Beirut while reflecting the city’s open, cross-genre spirit—dissolving boundaries between experimental, rock, Arabic, and jazz scenes.
