Das Ende ist nah marks the German stage premiere of the adaptation of Amir Gudarzi’s debut novel, created and directed by Ayşe Güvendiren for Schauspiel Essen. Gudarzi, raised in Tehran and living in exile in Vienna since 2009, is an award-winning playwright whose honors include the Kleist-Förderpreis and the Christian-Dietrich-Grabbe-Preis. In the 2023/2024 season he served as in-house author at Nationaltheater Mannheim. Güvendiren, born in Vienna in 1988 and trained in directing at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich, has worked at leading theatres including Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Münchner Kammerspiele, and Nationaltheater Mannheim. The production will premiere on 11 December 2026 at ADA, the newly renovated, high-tech studio stage on the second floor of the Grillo-Theater, home venue of Schauspiel Essen.
