About this event

This concert is a featured event in the "NOW! Transzendenz" festival, a contemporary music festival supported by the Kunststiftung NRW, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW, and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The program brings together the WDR Sinfonieorchester under the baton of Vimbayi Kaziboni to perform a demanding repertoire of late 20th and early 21st-century works. The evening's structure moves chronologically backward in its composition dates, starting with Rolf Riehm's 2001 piece "Nuages immortels oder Focussing on Solos." A centerpiece of the production is the German premiere of Mark Andre's "Im Entsiegeln I" (2026), a newly commissioned work for soprano and orchestra featuring soloist Miah Persson. The program continues with Jiaying He's recent 2025 composition "vacuum travel: 55 Days" before concluding with the titular work, Morton Feldman's expansive 1973 composition "String Quartet and Orchestra."
