About this event
Igor Levits Universum is a conversation concert that invites the audience into pianist Igor Levit’s artistic and intellectual world. With the Beethoven anniversary in 2027 on the horizon, this edition casts Beethoven as a visionary whose piano sonatas captured the future in sound. Bridging performance and discourse, Levit plays and speaks with futurologist Prof. Dr. Kerstin Cuhls to explore how ideas about the future resonate with Beethoven’s work. Moderator Dorothee Kalbhenn guides the flow of the exchange. The program centers on Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53 (“Waldstein”). Presented by Theater und Philharmonie Essen at the Philharmonie Essen.
