About this event

This production marks the Swiss premiere of Hofesh Shechter's full-length dance work, "From England with Love." Originally created in 2021 and premiered by the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 in The Hague, the piece serves as a complex exploration of patriotism and the concept of home. The choreography navigates a fine line between alienation and identification, aligning with a season motto of simultaneously belonging and remaining on the outside. The artistic vision is driven by a powerful, avant-garde soundscape that juxtaposes the classical compositions of English masters like Henry Purcell and Thomas Tallis with aggressive rock music, choral passages, and electronic elements. Shechter, who serves as the choreographer, composer, and costume designer, crafts a tension-filled atmosphere that reflects the paradox of a nation that is open and generous, yet deeply tied to a dark history and rigid traditions.
