Andonis Foniadakis’ latest choreography, created for Ballet Pécs, explores Baroque themes in a dynamic and deeply expressive way, viewed from the perspective of contemporary dance and music. The production highlights the vitality, speed, and explosive expressive power of the Baroque era, while simultaneously engaging in a dialogue with the present day. In his choreography, Foniadakis draws inspiration from the principle of counterpoint, translating it into the language of movement. Each dancer introduces their own motif—similar to a voice in a Baroque fugue—which intertwines with the motifs of the others to create a unified yet complex whole. This approach is mirrored by Julien Tarride’s contemporary electronic soundscape, which energizes and reframes Baroque ideas for a 21st‑century stage.
