The Müpa Budapest audience will experience the first major appearance of Gábor Bretz in his capacity as the 2026/2027 "Artist of the Season" at Hungary's largest cultural institution. Celebrated for his velvety tones, refined vocal culture, and exceptionally meticulous craftsmanship, the internationally acclaimed bass-baritone will showcase the versatility of his vocal art through the intimate medium of the song recital. The production concept centers on an impressive cross-section of verses by the great German poet Heinrich Heine, exploring how his poetry was interpreted and set to music by prominent 19th- and early 20th-century composers including Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Liszt, Wagner, and Richard Strauss. The recital is enhanced by an educational and contextual layer, with insightful commentary provided by music historian Sándor Kovács to bridge the gap between the poetic text and its musical settings.
