The Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, led by Music Director Rafael Payare, brings a dynamic and historically resonant program to Walt Disney Concert Hall. The performance is anchored by Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, a powerful and darkly intense work composed following the death of Joseph Stalin. The second movement of this symphony is frequently interpreted as a musical portrait of the dictator, requiring a ferocious and energetic orchestral delivery. The concert also highlights contemporary and classical contrasts, opening with the mythological atmospheres of Samy Moussa's Elysium and transitioning into the celebrated classical repertoire with Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
