This concert surveys more than a century of American symphonic music, guided by composer-conductor Teddy Abrams with violinist Ray Chen. At its core is the world premiere of Abrams’ Seasons of America—an LA Phil commission—conceived as a contemporary, stateside counterpart to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and tailored to showcase Chen’s expansive musical line and impassioned tone. The premiere is framed by landmark 20th-century American works, creating a focused journey through the nation’s orchestral voices. The October 29 performance is part of the Thursday 2 subscription series, and the production is supported in part by the Kohl Virtuoso Violin Fund.
