Directed by Laurent Pelly, who also designs the costumes, this new staging of Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges embraces the opera’s burlesque, satirical, and fairy‑tale spirit. The production channels the score’s vigorous unpredictability, letting the orchestra act like a character in its own right. Set designer Caroline Ginet and lighting designer Michel Le Borgne conjure a playful, highly theatrical world inspired by Carlo Gozzi’s commedia dell’arte. Under the baton of Dmitry Matvienko, the Orchestra and Chorus of the Opéra de Lyon bring out the music’s driving energy and biting irony in a co‑production with the Théâtre des Champs‑Élysées.
