The 2022 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition winner Inmo Yang returns as soloist with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Critics worldwide have praised Yang’s phenomenal sound, described as having a “cello-like warmth and depth” (The Arts Desk, 2023) and “full and glowing in sustained notes, bright and silvery in quick passages” (The New York Times, 2016). The concert continues with Richard Strauss’s tone poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life). Strauss embedded musical caricatures of, among others, his wife Pauline and the critics he despised. The work’s autobiographical take on heroism once led critics to deride it as a “monstrous display of egotism.”
