Taking the Lead – Musiikkitalo, Helsinki

About this event

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra presents a diverse chamber program that bridges classical foundations with modernist folk interpretations. The production highlights the orchestra's collaborative nature, described as an ensemble "in which everyone is a star." The artistic vision centers on themes of discovery and celebration, juxtaposing Luciano Berio's modernist approach to traditional folk music with Igor Stravinsky's neoclassical tribute and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's youthful symphonic writing. The staging concept relies on the acoustic and spatial properties of the Musiikkitalo Concert Hall. The program is structured to showcase different facets of the chamber orchestra's capabilities, from providing gentle, intricate accompaniments for a vocal soloist in the Berio cycle to navigating the rhythmic complexities of Stravinsky's chamber concerto.
