About this event

This recital celebrates the historic partnership between Franz Schubert and the great operatic baritone Johann Michael Vogl, whose meeting in 1817 helped catalyse some of Schubert’s finest songs, including Erlkönig and Ganymed. Baritone James Newby and pianist Joseph Middleton frame a Schubert-only programme around the arc of that collaboration, tracing its artistic breadth and long-lasting influence. The concert also opens James Newby’s Wigmore Hall Residency for the 2026/27 season. Approximately two hours including an interval. Supported by the Rick Mather David Scrase Foundation.
