Painstaking scholarship and deep knowledge of Mozart’s art underpin Robert Levin’s life-affirming interpretations on the fortepiano. He returns to Wigmore Hall with a programme that traces Mozart’s path to artistic maturity, from the dazzling brilliance of the Piano Sonata in G, K283 (composed during the teenage composer’s pivotal 1775 visit to Munich) to the forward-looking Variations in B-flat, K500. A defining feature of this recital is Levin’s own scholarly completions of unfinished Mozart works: the Sarabande and Gigue from the Suite in C, K399, and the fragmentary Allegro in G minor, K312. Performed on fortepiano, the recital offers historically informed colour and timbre across an all-Mozart evening.
