About this event
“Beethoven Re-Sounded: Beethoven and Vienna” is a conceptual chamber music programme that explores Vienna’s musical lineage. It traces an arc from the classical foundations laid by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to the late-Romantic innovations of Arnold Schoenberg. Serving as the opening concert of the Nash Ensemble’s Beethoven Re-Sounded series at Wigmore Hall, the event blends instrumental performance with dramatic recitation. Letters by Mozart and Beethoven and Richard Dehmel’s poem Verklärte Nacht are interwoven with the music, delivered by a narrator to provide historical and emotional context. The Nash Ensemble’s flexible forces move between a flute quartet, a piano-and-winds quintet, and a string sextet, mirroring the evolution of chamber forms within the Viennese tradition.
