About this event
The Big Dreaming is a family-focused musical production recommended for children aged 3–7 and their families. Presented in a relaxed, friendly environment, the concert introduces young audiences to music, animation, and storytelling. At its heart is a new musical story with music by award-winning composer Paul Rissmann, based on a new book by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Daniel Egnéus. Live narration and piano performance are woven together with digital animations by Vic Craven to create an immersive experience with songs and actions for children to join in. Alongside the main narrative, the programme includes Chopin’s Minute Waltz, Florence Price’s Ticklin’ Toes, and Hushabye Mountain. The work was originally commissioned by Concerteenies in 2023 with support from the PRS Foundation and the Vaughan Williams Foundation, and was co-created with children and teachers at Beck Primary School and Whiteways Primary School, with thanks to Sheffield Music Hub.
