About this event

This staging of Giselle brings the celebrated Astana Opera Ballet Company to Genoa, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Teatro Carlo Felice under the baton of Elmar Buribayev. The choreography is by Altynai Asylmuratova, former principal dancer of the Mariinsky Theatre and artistic director of the Astana Opera Ballet, who stages the classic Romantic-era work with a refined theatrical sensibility. Ezio Frigerio, the distinguished Italian set designer renowned internationally for his collaborations with Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano and at La Scala, designs the sets together with Riccardo Massironi. Franca Squarciapino, who received an Academy Award for Best Costume Design, designs the costumes, and Vincenzo Raponi designs the lighting. The production was created for the Astana Opera, where it premiered on 14 June 2019, and is presented at the Teatro Carlo Felice as part of the 2026/2027 season.
