About this event
This concert presentation at Wigmore Hall features a complete performance of Hugo Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch. The production strips away theatrical staging to focus purely on the musical and textual interplay of the song cycle in a traditional recital format. The performance brings together two prominent German singers, baritone Johannes Kammler and soprano Katharina Ruckgaber, collaborating with the esteemed British pianist Imogen Cooper. The artistic vision centers on the intimate chamber music acoustic of Wigmore Hall, allowing the nuanced psychological details of Wolf’s lieder to project clearly. The production is structured to respect the composer’s original publication format, presenting the 46 songs with a formal interval placed between Book 1 and Book 2, resulting in a total running time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
