This concert serves as the opening event for Avi Avital’s 2026/27 Season Residency at Wigmore Hall. Titled "Art of the Mandolin," the production is designed to showcase the artistic inspiration the mandolin has provided across four centuries of musical history. The artistic vision centers on demonstrating the instrument's versatility through a carefully curated selection of original compositions and specialized arrangements. A unique aspect of this staging is the highly specialized chamber ensemble assembled for the performance, combining mandolin with harp, guitar, theorbo, and harpsichord. The production highlights both historical transcriptions and contemporary works, specifically featuring Paul Ben-Haim’s pulsating Sonata a tre and David Bruce's Death is a Friend of Ours, the latter being a surprisingly uplifting work specially commissioned for Avi Avital to celebrate the joy of being alive.
