The production focuses on the trio sonata, the secret star of Baroque chamber music. The genre’s title reveals less about the number of players and more about the underlying principle: a three-part texture. Two upper voices converse in lively dialogue while the basso continuo provides grounding and rhythmic propulsion. Typical alternations of slow and fast movements, often with dance-like character, lend both structure and energy. The program highlights how the trio sonata offered rich developmental possibilities to enthusiastic amateurs in aristocratic and bourgeois salons as well as to the era’s brilliant virtuosos. The title “motus animi continuus” (continuous movement of the spirit) reflects these works not as dry instructional pieces but as imaginative, spirited laboratories of musical experimentation.
