Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is one of music history’s most beloved interpretations of the Nativity story. For Copenhagen Phil, performing the work has become a recurring Christmas tradition, bringing audiences together year after year in a musical celebration of the season. The renowned English Baroque specialist Laurence Cummings leads the soloists, orchestra, and the Copenhagen Boys Choir in a performance that brings Bach’s Christmas music vividly and intimately into the present. Bach reused earlier music in the Christmas Oratorio, but transformed it with his unique sense of dramatic and musical coherence, resulting in an integrated whole in which the monumental and the personal merge in a sound world marked by warmth, clarity, and depth.
