Soran Lind: The Golden Age of the Saxophone is a focused recital that champions the classical saxophone—an instrument long on the margins of the symphonic tradition. Invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s, the saxophone met resistance in classical circles, yet it achieved a decisive artistic breakthrough between the World Wars. This program traces that ascent, when virtuosos like Marcel Mule inspired a flood of compelling repertoire. Centered on the French tradition from roughly 1920–1950, the program balances lyrical singing lines with dazzling technical demands. Norwegian saxophonist Soran Lind, joined by pianist Eirik Haug Stømner, highlights the instrument’s expressive range and artistic legitimacy in a concert designed to engage both seasoned listeners and newcomers alike.
