About this event
This concert brings together brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon for Brahms’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, led by Jaap van Zweden with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. After the concerto’s intimate dialogue between soloists and orchestra, the program continues with Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, a landmark of French Romanticism. The Capuçon brothers draw on decades of shared music-making to illuminate the concerto’s lyrical and structural depth, originally conceived by Brahms as an act of reconciliation with Joseph Joachim. Jaap van Zweden then guides the orchestra through Berlioz’s visionary narrative, famed for its bold orchestration and dramatic arc. This engagement at the Philharmonie Essen is part of the orchestra’s wider European tour, showcasing leading French orchestral artistry across major concert halls.
