Vive la France! is a concert devoted to the exuberant choral and orchestral music of the French baroque in the 17th and 18th centuries. The program highlights how choral music flourished not only in sacred settings but also in opera theatres and concert halls of the time. Inspired by historical accounts—such as Charles Burney’s 1770 description of a Paris audience transported by a grand motet by Lalande—the concert celebrates the expressive power of combined voices. Curated and directed by Ivars Taurins, the evening balances intimate musical expression with grand, sweeping works, exploring themes of faith, love, grief, passion, and the natural world. Performed on period instruments with chamber choir, the production aims for both historical authenticity and vivid emotional resonance.
