The Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Beethoven’s Fifth anchors the 2026/27 Classics Series with a vivid three-part program. It opens with Jörg Widmann’s Con brio, a witty, high-spirited homage to Beethoven that sets an energetic tone. Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt—TSO’s 2026/27 Spotlight Artist—then brings poetic grace to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The evening culminates with Beethoven’s thunderous Symphony No. 5, famed for its iconic four-note opening motif. The Friday, October 9 performance includes a special 6:15 PM pre-concert by the TSO Chamber Soloists, curated by Concertmaster Jonathan Crow, and included with that evening’s ticket.
