About this event
Part of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s 2026/27 Classics Series curated by Music Director Gustavo Gimeno, this concert celebrates the 50th birthday of beloved Canadian violinist James Ehnes. The program at Roy Thomson Hall opens with the Canadian Première of Guillaume Connesson’s Maslenitsa, continues with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto featuring Ehnes, and concludes with Saint-Saëns’s monumental Symphony No. 3, the “Organ” Symphony. The hall’s Gabriel Kney organ will be featured in the finale, performed by organist Rachel Mahon. Reflecting the Classics Series’ balance of new voices and timeless masterpieces, the production highlights the orchestra’s range and the venue’s acoustic power. As an added experience, the Sunday matinee on November 29 includes a pre-concert performance by the TSO Chamber Soloists at 1:45pm, curated by Concertmaster Jonathan Crow and included with the ticket.
