About this event
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra presents Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs as part of their newly rebranded Classics series for the 2026/27 season. The program is designed to contrast themes of finality and vitality. It opens with a tender miniature, “Nicht zu schnell,” orchestrated by Colin Matthews from Gustav Mahler’s unfinished Piano Quartet sketches. The centerpiece is Strauss’s reflective song cycle, written at the end of his life and sung by soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen in her TSO debut. The evening concludes with the energetic and joyful Symphony No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven, conducted by Music Director Gustavo Gimeno.
