Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is one of music history’s most beloved interpretations of the Christmas story, and for Copenhagen Phil the work has become an annual Christmas tradition. Year after year, audiences gather for this musical celebration of Christmas, where the narrative comes alive through Bach’s unique musical language. Renowned English baroque specialist Laurence Cummings leads the soloists, orchestra, and the Copenhagen Boys’ Choir in a performance that brings Bach’s Christmas music vividly into the present. Bach reused earlier music in the Christmas Oratorio, but transformed it through his mastery of dramatic and musical coherence, resulting in a unified whole where the monumental and the intimate merge in a sound world marked by warmth, clarity, and depth.
