Nachtträume: – Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden

About this event

Nachtträume: is a contemporary dance piece choreographed by Spanish star choreographer Marcos Morau. Originally premiering as a major Zurich ballet event in 2022, the work has been described as both a dance panopticon and an abysmal Gesamtkunstwerk. The production is being restaged by the Hessisches Staatsballett for the 2026/2027 season. The staging transforms the performance space into a labyrinth of round tables, chairs, red sun spheres, and intertwining bodies. Within this environment, the production explores the close proximity of destruction and seduction, threat and sensuality. Morau’s artistic vision weaves historical references into the choreography, specifically drawing upon Kurt Jooss’s iconic 1932 anti-war dance drama The Green Table. The production also incorporates visual and thematic quotes from Maurice Béjart’s masterworks, such as Boléro and The Rite of Spring, creating a complex dialogue with dance history.
