A new staging of Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann directed by Dennis Krauß marks the 250th anniversary of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s birth. Krauß sets the story on a fairground in a breathless space between dream and nightmare, where the love‑forsaken poet confronts his own tales. The production emphasizes the stark contrasts in Offenbach’s score, from demonic sonorities to witty episodes, and immerses the audience in striking imagery. Sung in French with German and English surtitles.
