About this event

This new staging of Bizet’s beloved French masterpiece Carmen brings a fresh, audience-friendly perspective for today’s viewers. Directed and costumed by Irina Brook, it is the Yamagata tour revival of the production newly created by Tokyo Nikikai in February 2025 after a 16-year interval. Framed by timeless hits such as the Prelude, the Habanera, and the Toreador Song, the drama follows the tragic consequences of love, jealousy, and hatred surrounding the free-spirited Carmen. The production features brisk pacing and dynamic theatrical expression, with set design by Leslie Travers and choreography by Martin Buczko.
