This semi-staged family concert by the Dresdner Philharmonie centers on Hans Krása's children's opera Brundibár. Framed by Krása's Overture for Small Orchestra and James MacMillan's Détem for children's choir, the program speaks to audiences young and old about power, seduction, and collective resistance. The creative team includes scenic setting by Tabatha McFadyen, equipment by Carola Volles, and lighting design by Alexander Hauer. Part of the orchestra’s seasonal theme "Paradises" and aligned with "Tacheles 2026 | Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony," the production honors the composer and the Theresienstadt children who gave over 50 performances of Brundibár, without reducing the work to a historical document. Musical forces combine the Philharmonischer Kinderchor Dresden, directed by Gunter Berger, with members of the Dresdner Philharmonie, led by the current Runnicles Fellow.
