Every instrument has its own unmistakable sound. In this edition of the family concert series “phil to discover,” the violoncello takes center stage. The cello’s wide range is explored: deep registers sound sonorous and powerful, while the upper range can sing almost like a human voice. The educational concept is designed to make this variety tangible for children aged 5 and up. On its four strings, the cello can tell stories of nature, life, and love. Moderator Malte Arkona and the little earth girl Phili guide the audience on a playful search for clues through classical music. At the heart of the journey is Robert Schumann’s virtuosic Cello Concerto, planned in Dresden and completed in Düsseldorf—linking local musical history with the Romantic repertoire.
