A breathtaking encounter between ice and fire. Step into a world of contrasts in temperature and tempo as acclaimed Finnish conductor Emilia Hoving leads the orchestra through widely varied soundscapes. Composer Outi Tarkiainen grew up near the Arctic Circle with the ancient clinking, groaning, and rumbling of ice in her ears. Her Songs of the Ice follows the transformation of ice through the seasons. The tale of the beautiful Firebird, who brings both fortune and misfortune to whoever manages to capture her, is told by Igor Stravinsky with rhythms and orchestration as dazzling as the Firebird’s plumage. The concert is part of the Stora lördag and Lilla lördag series in the 2026–27 season with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
