About this event

This solo piano recital features Tomoki Sakata, winner of the 2016 Franz Liszt International Piano Competition (First Prize and six special awards) and fourth prize at the 2021 Queen Elisabeth Competition. The all-Liszt program spans the composer’s breadth and virtuosity: beginning with a transcription of a J. S. Bach organ work, moving to the monumental Piano Sonata in B minor, and encompassing brilliant concert etudes and the operatic paraphrase Réminiscences de Norma after Bellini’s opera. It offers a comprehensive encounter with Liszt’s expressive range and transcendental technique.
