About this event

The 30-piece Down for the Count Swing Orchestra returns to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama for its annual seasonal concert, Swing Into Christmas. The production is a large-scale big band with strings extravaganza, blending festive holiday classics with non-festive swing standards. Directed by conductor and compère Mike Paul-Smith, the ensemble recreates the authentic sounds and arrangements of mid-century jazz and swing icons such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Judy Garland. The concert emphasizes both musical performance and engaging storytelling to connect with audiences of all ages. Recognized as one of the largest swing bands touring the UK, the orchestra brings a vintage ensemble experience to modern halls, delivering fresh arrangements of iconic songs in an authentic big-band-with-strings style.
